A Few Ballet Schools

Whether you start dancing ballet as a very young child, or join a class as an older student, all ballet dancers dream of competitions, recognition, and traveling the world over with a ballet troupe.

A young student can start their ballet lessons at just about any school, but if they have determination, balance, grace, as well as natural talent for ballet, it's important that they attend a school where they can be given the opportunity to succeed.

One such school, the Kirov Ballet Company, also known as the Imperial Ballet is in Russia. In St. Petersburg Russia, this particular ballet school was named after a Communist Party leader Serfei Mironovich Kirov, who was assassinated. This particular ballet school is famous because of its precise training, meticulous traditional dance form, as well as classical music. Many of the graduates are well-known including Anna Pavlova, Mikael Baryshnikov and Rudolf Nureyev all known as world famous ballet dancers.

Another school of dance located in Moscow, Russia, is the Bolshoi Ballet Company. A combination of modern and classic concepts is what sets this ballet school a part. It has produced many grand scale performances as well as Prima Donnas, and it achieved its worldwide status because of its willingness to embrace contemporary theme and style of productions.

While in London, you may stop by the Royal Ballet School. This is found at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. Famous for its English ballet style it has produced more world-class dancers such as Antoinette Sibley, Rudolph Nureyev, Alixia Markova and Margo Foteyn.

For an extra special school, you may look into the International Dance School. This particular ballet school is only offered once every four years and is an invitation only school. This particular school is held after or in leu with the US international ballet competitions. This means that those who can perform various ballet techniques such as points, modern ballet, jazz ballet, contemporary ballet and even character ballet, go on to some of the most prestigious international ballet competitions.

The Washington school of ballet located in Washington, DC, United States is another world-class school. You'll find teachers and dancers including Amanda McKerrow, Kevin McKenzie, Virginia Johnson, and has been awarded the best ballet school for the year 2001 and 2002.

While many are found that a local dance troupe can get them started in ballet, for those who dream big and have the talent, heading for one of these prestigious schools can do the trick. It's important to understand in order to join any of these schools that you must audition. Your audition is what will determine whether you're allowed in any one of these prestigious schools or not. Sometimes, it may take many years of practice and many auditions before you actually get to train in one of these prestigious ballet schools.
